Training For All Retrievers. . .

If you surf our site, you will read alot about Standard Poodles. Our love for Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Flat Coated Retrievers, Trollers, Curly Coats, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, etc. are not fairly displayed on those pages. Our lack of mention is not the result of a deficiency in our admiration for the breeds, but rather the reality of having a daughter with severe asthma resulting from animal hair and dander. We are former Lab owners who had no choice but to seek another retrieving breed once our late-labs crossed the rainbow bridge. It is because of this, that we can appreciate even the rare retrieving breeds; looking to prove their worth in the field and at hunt tests.

Our asthmatic daughter is now 27 years old and no longer lives at home. As a result, it is easy for us, once again, to open ourselves to all of the retrieving breeds that have stolen our hearts over the years. Our poodles have become such a HUGE part of our lives, that they will always be with us, and our desire to remind people of their retrieving abilities, as well as the talents found in other rare and common retrievers, inspires us to continue our work with all of them.

Our Mission . . .

To provide our bird hunting clients with the highest quality retriever training services available in the Southwestern United States. Being avid hunters ourselves, we are well aware of the skills required of a dog in the field (working to foster drive, obedience and good citizenship).

The principals of Harmony Mountain Retrievers have owned and worked with labrador retrievers, standard poodles, and a variety of rescue dogs for 40 years and truly enjoy them. Richard, Harmony Mountain Retrievers' CEO, is an avid bird hunter, with real-life field experience and a proven ability to train hunting dogs for the field and for hunt tests. His desire to continually seek positive methods to train your (and our own) hunting dogs, resulted in his enrollment in the Animal Behavior College to acquire his dog training certification. He graduated from this intensive one-year program on 9/26/2007 (view Richard's certification). Lori, Harmony Mountain Retrievers' President, graduated from the Animal Behavior College, receiving her dog training certification, on 9/05/2007 (view Lori's certification). (She grew up in a family of hunters and works well within all aspects of the hunting world.)

Harmony Mountain Retrievers' principals have chosen the area around Cedar City, Utah as their future home and the area to conduct group retrieving classes in (at a location to be announced once we are in residence there). Even Cabelas has labeled land in the area "trophy" property because of the turkey and deer which are abundant there. While training will, most likely, not be held on Harmony Mountain Retrievers' property specifically, it will:

  • be near Cedar City, Utah (home to Southern Utah University and a gateway to Zion and Bryce National Parks);
  • be approximately 40 minutes (45 miles) north of St. George, Utah;
  • be approximately 2 hours north of Las Vegas, Nevada;
  • be approximately 3 hours south of Salt Lake City, Utah;
  • be approximately 15 minutes or around the Dixie National Forest; and
  • most likely be surrounded by state and federal land

Future plans and pictures will be revealed as they are established.
